Sad news just given to me: Marshall Rogers, my favorite Batman artist of all time, has passed away. Details are still sketchy, but a little part of my geekiness has died with him.
Marshall Rogers and Steve Engelhart and Terry Austin were responsible for one of the best Batman interpretations ever - the legendary Detective Comics #471-476 run. Check out the link, folks, so you can understand how great those 6 issues were. I was all of 1 year old when these originally came out, so obviously I read it years later. But it is still my favorite Batman story line ever. The heartbreaking final moment between Bats and Silver St. Cloud, and then 2 pages later, Marshall Rogers finishes it with a phenomenal shot of Batman swinging over Gotham City, HIS city - it just captures the essence of the man and what he has given up to be the Dark Knight.
Rest In Peace, Marshall Rogers. You will be missed.
