Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Trailer
Now, full disclosure time: I never saw the first one. And it was because I did not want another part of my childhood ruined and given the sacrilegious treatment. The reviewers did not like it too much, and more importantly, neither did the fellow fanboys and geeks, Jessica Alba notwithstanding
I dunno, that first one, even just watching the trailer for it - it did not FEEL like the Fantastic Four. What DID feel like the "real" FF movie was The Incredibles. That captured the FF to the core more than the actual FF movie ever did. In its core, the FF is one big, happy, dysfunctional family who just happen to have superpowers. The Incredibles was the FF given the Pixar treatment basically, and it was an amazing movie.
This sequel though... this one gives me hope. Not just because Silver Surfer is one of my favorite comic book characters ever. And not just because there's an old school FantastiCar sighting either.
Listen, truth be told, the powers that be in the first movie screwed the pooch with Dr. Doom. Us fans don't mind a little tweaking of a character here and there, but you can't screw around with it too much. And now, the same powers that be are touching on ANOTHER Stan Lee-Jack Kirby defining moment: Silver Surfer heralding the arrival of Galactus. But this one - it FEELS right. Seeing Dr. Doom in the trailers in the first one just did not feel right at all.
I think at this point, the only way they can screw the pooch with this one is if they totally do not deliver on Galactus. Galactus is the key. Surfer is the undercard, but Galactusis the main event. The rumors that Galactus appears as only a cloud has been denied, so there is hope. We don't want Ultimate Galactus either (galactic locusts? wtf). We want him purple and blue and ginormous. He is, after all, the Eater of Worlds.
