Hot Fuzz is the new movie from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg (of Shaun of the Dead fame).
I watched it this past Friday, and I really enjoyed it a lot. It was an extremely well written comedy, and the execution was just as great. Comedy writing is a lost art nowadays, and it was great to see a comedy that did not have to resort to fart or shit jokes to try to be funny.
Now, don't get me wrong, there's a place in the movie world for those kind of jokes and movies too (South Park the Movie is one of my favorite movies ever). But there's a lot to be said as well about using situation, setting and dialogue to be funny, as opposed to gross out humor. And the lost art of set-up was perfectly employed here as well; it's okay to set up a joke an hour or so before the actual payoff. When the payoff comes, it makes it even much funnier, because without realizing it beforehand, that payoff was well worth the wait.
And BTC, you'll like this part a lot - they make fun of Michael Bay often.
Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are excellent as usual; Simon Pegg, as always, is the perfect straight man for Nick Frost.
