Heroes: The Season Finale

Roughly an hour ago, "Anonymous" left this comment on one of my Lost postings: When are you going to discuss the Season Finale of Heroes?

We here at the ErwiNation aim to please (even our Anonymous friends). Think of us as your Bed-and-Breakfast on the Internet - you stop by, rest up, and we'll cook you some eggs over easy and a side of corned beef hash.

BUT Mr. or Ms. Anonymous, I have a feeling you are not quite so Anonymous to me in real life. So quid pro quo, I post this and you tell me who you are if I am correct in that assumption. Deal?

Since I know that someone who reads this blog (one of my 2 or 3 loyal fans) has not watched Heroes yet, I will do the spoiler thing again.

Ok, this is what annoyed me not only about the Heroes season finale but the last 3 episodes in general. They were so drawn out it was like watching grass grow on a dry summer day. They could have condensed those 3 hours into 30 minutes and not really leave out anything important.

And I know this show is more character driven than action driven, but what an anticlimactic battle between Sylar and the quasi-Justice League for you DC fans/ quasi-X-Men for you Marvel fans. They spent the better part of the last 3 episodes leading up to this and we get the battle 5 minutes before the episode ends. And quite frankly, nothing happened in that fight. It was, to use BTC's own words, "a tad, hmmm, muted" (and he loved the season finale too). It was as if they blew their entire remaining budget in the "5 Years Later" episode and had to do the last 3 on the cheap.

And while I am willing to suspend disbelief that Jack Bauer can drive from one end of L.A. to another in 10 minutes, I am not willing to do the same to a deserted New York City. Where the hell were the people?

Now don't get me wrong, it wasn't all bad. Nathan coming back to save the city was a nice touch (Albeit not unexpected. Sean kept on yakking for weeks that that was he thought was going to happen, so kudos). The teasers for season 2 were great (Who is this mysterious figure that Molly was so afraid of? Hiro's dilemma. We get to learn more about the parents and their powers, I bet. Who will be Kensi - Takei or Hiro?).

Honestly, it would have been better if the season finale was the 5 Years Later episode (with some re-writes of the previous 3 to make continuity make sense of course). It could have ended the same way too; Hiro goes back in time but ends up in the Japanese Feudal Age.

All in all, it was a good solid season for Heroes, my issues with the last 3 episodes notwithstanding. I still am looking forward to Season 2 as well as the 6 episode spinoff during the layoff.

And finally, anyone else besides me think that Sylar and Peter are still too powerful? They are almost Silver Surfer-like relative to the other Heroes.

Yes, your assumption is correct.

Thanks for the eggs. I'll try 'em scrambled next time.
