Yes, yes, the end of the "What Should The ErwiNation Read Next" contest was way back in May, but being on vacation last week finally gave me the time to finish The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay.
When I first started reading the book in May, I tore through the first 4 parts and most of the 5th in about 2-3 weeks (in terms of pages, that was 461 of 637 total pages). Then adult A.D.D. took over and was not able to pick it up again till I was relaxing in Boracay with a lot of time to kill on the beach. Ripped through the last part of the book in about 4 hours total spread out over 2 days.
Kavalier and Clay happens to be BTC's favorite book (or at least it was back on 5/7/2007 when I first discussed this with him) and I'm glad to say that I will have to rank it as a 7 Nation book as well.
Anybody who's ever had even just a passing romance with comic books will certainly love this book.
Any person who feels the bonds of family and all its happiness and pain can certainly relate to the words inside.
And to the reader who has been in love and been through its tribulations, well... this one's especially for you.
Too bad Michael Chabon has said the movie version of this is basically dead in the water. Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman were cast as Joe and Rosa respectively and in my mind's eye, I can't see anybody else but those two for the roles.
Do read this book if you haven't yet.
