Murakami Exhibit

So I went to the Brooklyn Museum this past weekend to check out the Murakami Exhibit.

For those not familiar with him, you would probably recognize one of Takashi Murakami's most famous works - as he was the creative mind behind those funky Louis Vuitton bags that were all the rage.

I am usually not as big a fan of contemporary art as much as I am of the older stuff, but I enjoyed this exhibit very much. I'm sure a part of it is because I am a fan of anime and manga, both of which influenced his work. I also loved the colors which are a big part of his oeuvre. But I think the reason I really appreciated the exhibit is that he lives the Japanese mantra of not differentiating between "high art" and "low art", as evidenced by the popularity of manga and anime amongst Japanese adults.

The exhibit is only here in Brooklyn til July 13th; check it out if you have a chance.
