The Nile's Lost Kingdom

On this link is a VERY interesting NY Times article about the kingdom of Kush, Egypt's neighbor in ancient times. Kush was somewhat of a powerhouse in 2000-1500 B.C. (even without the benefit of a writing system, major urban centers or an extensive bureaucracy), and archaeologists are scrambling to unearth more about it before the floods from a new dam on the Nile wash it away forever.
