The DVR Effect

Here's an article in the NY Times about the DVR effect on ratings/viewer habits, and what Neilsen is doing about it.

It'll be interesting to see how ratings shake out once DVR is taken into effect. I know for a fact I'm one of those who would skew the ratings because of DVR (as would most of my friends). There were points in time I had quite the back catalog of shows on my DVR, and I ended up deleting a lot of them.

But I LOVE my DVR. It's like the first time I got a cell phone years ago. Right after you decide to get it or actually get it, you tend to think it's just a convenience and you really won't use it/need it that much when all is said and done. Then not so long after that, you can't imagine not being without it and are amazed at how you lived your life before when you were devoid of its presence.

Without a doubt, the DVR sure beats the old way of recording shows through the VCR by a mile. What a lovely gizmo.
