While watching the "Kindred" episode of Heroes Season 2, something was bugging me about the whole West/Claire flight scene, or as some call it, the Heroes version of "If You Can Read My Mind" (If I have to explain it, If You Can Read My Mind was the song playing when Superman and Lois Lane did their flight scene in Superman 1, and I believe also when they did the flight scene again in Superman Returns).
Anyway, I finally figured out what was bothering me about it, thanks to IGN who nailed it right on the head:
"In the same regard, it was more of the same between Claire and West. This time, West's annoying antagonistic behavior drove Claire to tears. She broke down and admitted she was different and in hiding, to which West so nobly replied, "Shut up." Are we to accept that their "Can you read my mind?" couples flight made it okay that he's been nothing but a giant tool up to this point? The writers apparently thought so."
--- So yes, you can be a jackass to a girl when you're actually interacting with her instead of stalking her, but as long as you can pull out the whole flight thing in the end, it's all good. Is Claire that desperate to feel like she belongs that she'll overlook those facts? I guess so. That's not giving Claire much credit as a character though.
Like I said, the ladies dig the flight. I'll never forget watching Superman Returns at the theater with my girlfriend at the time, and when they pulled the Superman/Lois Lane flight scene redux, she started cooing. That's when I realized Superman Returns was a chick flick for all intents and purposes and started dreaming about The Batman sequel.
