Movie Review: No Country For Old Men

The short of it: 5 Nations, maybe 6

The long of it:

Not a bad flick at all, as the Coen brothers come back after their last misfire. Several people might find the ending rather abrupt or anticlimactic (like say, Sean in his review), but I'm not sure if there was any other way to end it. I do agree with Sean when he says:

"Without spoiling it, it's like knowing three trains are on a collision course to destruction. Then all of the sudden, one train crashes out of nowhere but you don't see it, only see the aftermath. One train keeps going while the other just stops and decides it isn't worth chugging along anymore."

But honestly, I don't know if it could have gone any other way...

Yes, some parts were very slow, but the acting was phenomenal. Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Tommy Lee Jones were simply outstanding. Special kudos also to Kelly MacDonald (she of Trainspotting and Gosford Park fame, among others); she has the thickest Scottish accent ever and not a single trace of it as she perfected her Texan drawl. I've always liked her and I'm glad to see her show her chops in this one. Her last scene was one of the memorable ones in the film. Stephen Root (he'll always be Jimmie James of Newsradio to me) and Woody Harrelson were fun in their small roles as well.

Again, not a bad film, and I can see this being a serious Oscar contender in a couple of months (and if you believe the buzz, along with Atonement - which I have to see - and There Will Be Blood - which features the amazing Daniel Day Lewis).
